Mark Allen sets up Joe Perry showdown
Share:

Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen overcame Peter Lines in the third round of the UK Championship to set up a clash with Joe Perry. Allen will probably be off the Lines family’s Christmas Card list this year as he also dumped out Peter’s son Oliver in the previous round, and with his third-round win became the first player to beat a father and son at the same tournament.

The Northern Irishman, who is seeking a first ever Triple Crown title in York, opened up a 3-0 lead before he was pegged back after Lines won frames four and five. Allen moved ahead again before Lines pulled it back to 5-4 although the world number six held his nerve to claim a 6-4 success. Allen reached the final of the UK Championship in 2011, but his best performance since has been a quarter-final appearance.

The 31-year-old, who hit a maximum break in last year’s edition of the tournament, is priced at 11/1 to win the UK Championship outright. Ronnie O’Sullivan is the current 6/5 favourite to claim the title ahead of his third-round clash with Michael White on Tuesday. O’Sullivan is 1/7 to beat White or 11/2 to win 6-0. White is 17/4 to claim the victory.
