Review of the 2017 China Championship (Qualifiers)

Shaun Murphy put to bed the disappointment of not qualifying for the Riga masters with a powerful performance against talented Chinese player Anda Zhang. Murphy fired in breaks of 53,87,84,87 and 109 in sweeping aside Zhang by a 5-2 scoreline. Zhang also pit his stamp of class on the match with an excellent break of 138 in frame 3.

Michael Georgiou continued his excellent start to the season with a convincing 5-1 victory over the former Shanghai master’s champion Kyren Wilson. Cypriot number 1 Georgiou fired in four breaks of 50 plus and will now meet frames academy team mate Kurt Maflin for a place in the last 32.

Chinese prodigy Zhou Yuelong battled back from 3-0 down to win 5-3 against Christopher Keogan. Zhou made it a perfect 100% start to the season and will be looking to cement his place in the top 32 this season.

Marco Fu continued his powerful scoring form from last season with a dominant 5-0 victory over Sanderson Lam. Fu fired in back to back centuries along with a break of 64 and he will take a lot of stopping in Guangzhou.

Judd Trump started his season in positive fashion with a 5-1 victory over Xu Si. Judd fired in breaks of 67,95 and 100 and will now take his place in the round of 64 in Guangzhou.

Former Indian Open champion Michael White battled back from a 2-0 down stroking in breaks of 74, 54 and 85 to complete 5-3 success against Martin O’Donnell.
