No easy games at Crucible - Trump
Share:

Judd Trump expects he’ll have to be playing at his peak from the get-go when he faces Stephen Maguire in the World Championship quarter-finals in Sheffield. Trump produced a blistering display as he came from 9-7 down to defeat Ding Junhui 13-9 in the last 16 on Monday evening.

The ‘Ace in the Pack’ said he went out with the mentality of scrapping for every point and refusing to accept defeat, having thrown away a 5-1 lead against the Chinese star.

It will be Trump’s sixth appearance in the last eight of snooker’s biggest tournament although he has failed to make a semi-final appearance since 2015.

World number one Ronnie O’Sullivan could have been on his path but he suffered a shock exit against James Cahill in round one, with Maguire ousting the qualifier 13-12 to set up a showdown with Trump.

Mark Selby has also gone from Trump’s side of the draw, ensuring that either Gary Wilson or Ali Carter will be waiting for Trump or Maguire in the semis.

The Bristol potter and reigning Dafabet Masters champion is not taking any potential opponent lightly at the Crucible.

“I was prepared to go out there and fight for every point [against Ding],” said Trump. “I went out with the mentality that I wasn’t going to lose.

“Stephen Maguire is always going to be a tough player. Ali Carter is always going to be a hard game and Gary Wilson is playing the best snooker of his life. There are no easy games anymore. This is the last eight of the World Championship, so I’m going to have to be on my game from the very start.”

Trump is 1.20 to beat Maguire, while he’s 2.88 to win his maiden World Championship next Monday.
