Lyu digs deep to beat Hamilton
Share:

China’s Lyu Haotian produced a scintillating display to book his place in the final of the Indian Open as he overcame Anthony Hamilton on Sunday.

The youngster reached his first final of the season and he will now take on England’s Matthew Selt.

Hamilton took the early initiative in the contest as he raced into a 2-0 lead in Kochi. A break of 69 helped him win the first frame, before he then moved into a 2-0 lead after outscoring his opponent 62-30.

However, Lyu was then able to find his rhythm, claiming the third frame 69-17 before taking over. Breaks of 86, 56 and 68 saw him seal the next three frames and the match, although he will now have to up his game if he is to beat Selt to land the title.

Selt beat John Higgins in the first match of Sunday’s play and will be a slight favourite as a result.

Selt is 1.85 to win his first ranking title, while Lyu is 1.91 to get his hands on the trophy and the £50,000 prize money.

Lyu will not be short of confidence as he prepares to play in the final, having already beaten Zhou Yuelong, Luke Simmonds, Andy Hicks and Mark Davis.

He has improved his results after a tough few months with the China Championship in September the last time he reached the final four of an event.

The betting suggests a close game between the pair could well be on the cards, and Selt to win 5-4 is priced at 6.00 with Dafabet while Lyu is also priced at 6.00 to win by the same scoreline.
