Kyren Wilson ready to lay down a marker
Share:

England’s Kyren Wilson will be determined to lay down a marker when he kicks off his Champions League campaign with three matches on day one. The world number 14 ended 2017 in disappointing fashion as he lost to Jack Lisowski during a qualifying match for the German Masters. Before that, he reached the third round of the Scottish Open and UK Championship and he will get a chance to kick on this week.

Wilson faces Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in his first match and he is 20/21 to overcome his opponent. He will then do battle with Anthony Hamilton before meeting Ryan Day in his final match of the day. He is 4/5 to win his last contest, with Day the slight underdog at odds of 20/21. Group A also contains Michael Holt, Mark King and Zhou Yuelong and the latter is priced at 40/1 to win the tournament this year. The Chinese star opens his tournament against Day and he is the outsider at odds of 5/4 to overcome his opponent.

He then faces King before his attention turns to Maguire in a packed day of action at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Unlike Wilson, the 19-year-old faces four games on day one and he will take on Holt in the final match of the day. Both players are priced at 5/6 to win before the attention turns to Wednesday’s action with the rest of Group 1 finishing their campaigns. Mark Selby is currently 5/1 favourite to win the tournament, while Judd Trump is just behind him in the betting at odds of 6/1.
