Wilson stunned in Daqing
Share:

Kyren Wilson suffered a disappointing loss in the second round of the International Championship as he went down in a deciding frame to Tom Ford.

Wilson has endured a tough start to the season as the world number eight was one of a number of players forced to miss the Riga Masters due to flight cancellations.

The 27-year-old has never been beyond the second round in the International Championship and his struggles in the event continued as he went down 6-5 to world number 27 Ford.

The defeat doesn’t harm Wilson’s chances of securing a spot in the Shanghai Masters however, as he will remain in the world’s top 16 ahead of the cut off for the non-ranking tournament coming at the end of this week’s event.

Wilson won the Shanghai event in 2015 when it was a ranking tournament, beating Judd Trump in the final, but was knocked out in the first round the following year and hasn’t been involved since.

Triple Crown winner Shaun Murphy, currently ranked as the world number 15, looks on course to qualify for the Shanghai Masters after surviving a spirited fight back from Riga winner Yan Bingtao.

Murphy opened up a 5-0 lead, with Yan scoring just eight points in total in the first five frames, but the 19-year-old won four frames in a row before Murphy managed to get over the line.

Wilson is 17.00 to win the UK Championship later this year and Murphy is available at 29.00.
