Kyren Wilson eyeing Masters crown
Share:

Kyren Wilson has talked up his ability under pressure and believes he is fully deserving of his place in the Masters final after completing a dramatic comeback in Saturday’s semi-final with Judd Trump. The 26-year-old produced one of the great comebacks in the tournaments history to book his place in the showpiece final at Alexandra Palace. World number three Trump looked well on the way to easing through the last-four encounter after breaks of 83, 96 and 69 helped him on the way to a 5-2 lead, however, he allowed some unwanted errors to slip into his game.

Wilson pounced on his opportunity to fight back into the match and he drew level at 5-5 courtesy of an impressive 107 break to set up a tense deciding frame in front of a packed house. The Warrior held his nerve to come out on top and has subsequently set up a final showdown with Mark Allen who defeated John Higgins in the other semi-final. The Kettering-born potter believes his ability under pressure along with a shade of luck helped him through and says he has promised to bring the title home. Wilson said: “I felt nervous but lady luck was on my side. “I’m quite good under pressure with a sound technique. To win it in one visit was very pleasing. It’s been a great week for me and my family. Hopefully I can give them something else to cheer about tomorrow. “I have been a top 16 player for a couple of years so I feel like I deserve my right to be in this tournament. I’m not just here to make up the numbers, I’m here to lift the trophy, which would mean absolutely everything to me. I promised my mum I’d get it for her dining room table!”

Wilson goes into to Sunday’s final as the slight underdog and can be backed at 6/4 to triumph, while Allen is priced at 8/15 to come out on top.
