Familiar foes meet in Shanghai
Share:

Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins will go head-to-head in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters on Friday. The duo have to be considered as two of the most decorated players in the history of the sport, as they have won a massive 29 ranking events each, with O’Sullivan claiming five world titles compared to Higgins’ four.

‘The Rocket’ also edges the head-to-head record between the pair, as he has won 33 of their 63 previous meetings, including their most recent encounter at this month’s Champion of Champions event in Coventry. O’Sullivan certainly appears to be a man in form, as he goes in search of his second victory at the Shanghai event, following his triumph at the tournament in 2009. The 41-year-old has dropped just four frames at this year’s event, recording resounding victories over Barry Hawkins and Mark Williams en route to the semi-finals.

Higgins, who is chasing his second title of the year following his triumph at the Indian Open in September, has also enjoyed a relatively straightforward route into the last four, seeing off Englishman Martin Gould 5-1 in the quarter-finals on Thursday. The Scot, who is also a previous winner in Shanghai after defeating Judd Trump in the 2012 final, is priced at 6/4 to secure a victory over old adversary O’Sullivan, who is available at 1/2 to win the best-of-11-frames match.
