Trump tops Brown in China
Share:

World champion Judd Trump got his campaign off to a positive start with a 6-3 win over Jordan Brown at the International Championship in Daqing.

The Englishman, who managed to overcome Scotland’s John Higgins in the World Championship in Sheffield in May, decided to skip last week’s Riga Masters and is now looking fresh in his bid to come out on top in China.

Ronnie O’Sullivan is still clinging on to top spot in the rankings but ‘The Rocket’ will be playing no part in the tournament at the Baihu Media Broadcasting Centre in Daqing.

It was Trump who managed to win the inaugural staging of the International Championship back in 2012 and the 29-year-old will be looking for further success in the competition this time around.

He certainly made a positive start on Sunday as he managed to overcome a resilient Brown to reach the second round of the competition.

Zhang Anda awaits in the next stage of the tournament, as Trump looks to edge closer to the impressive top prize of £175,000 for the International Championship winner this year.

Mark Allen is the current reigning champion and he too got off to a winning start with a comprehensive victory over Peter Lines over the weekend.

Neil Robertson, Stuart Bingham, and Yan Bintao, who are all expected to go far in the tournament, also came through their matches on their way to the second round.
