For Trump, Fu is the man to beat
Share:

British star Judd Trump beat fellow Brit Shaun Murphy to book his place in the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Masters, but he claims Marco Fu is still the man to beat. Trump was quick out of the blocks on Friday as he stormed into a 3-0 lead after breaks of 83 and 100 put him in a great position. Murphy responded to take the fourth frame of the day but Trump once again kicked on to move 4-1 in front.

Murphy then showed some pride to snatch a frame on the colours and he fought back to 4-3 but Trump fired home a frame of 92 to win the match. He will now face the winner of Ronnie O’Sullivan’s match against John Higgins, with O’Sullivan the slight favourite. Trump admits he needs to work on some areas of his game but he is wary of the threat Fu will pose after he beat Barry Hawkins 5-3 on Friday. He told World Snooker: “I played ok, I missed a few chances when among the balls.

“This is one of the first tournaments of the season so everyone is a bit rusty. It was important for me to get a good start. Shaun made some good breaks to get to 4-3 so I was happy to make a break in the last frame. “The arena is very big and the fans were good, we feel very welcome here. Marco Fu will be the man to beat this week because of the support he gets.”
