Trump back in action in Preston
Share:

England’s Judd Trump will make his first appearance of the new season when he tries to qualify for the Yushen Open this weekend. Trump will take on Wales’ Kishan Hirani and he is the hot favourite to advance into the next round.

The 28-year-old ended the campaign with a quarter-final defeat to John Higgins in the World Championship. He also lost to Higgins in the final of the Championship League and to Ronnie O’Sullivan in the semi-finals of the Players Championship before the end of last season.

Trump is widely expected to have no problems against Hirani, who is a 12.00 outsider.

Marco Fu is also back in action against Chris Totten, while Jamie Jones takes on Sam Craigie in the afternoon session. Robbie Williams will face off against Oliver Lines and Noppon Saengkham meets Sean O’Sullivan for a place in the tournament which starts on August 6. Williams is 1.61 to win, with Lines the 2.15 outsider with Dafabet.

In the evening session, Mark Selby meets Luke Simmonds and he is another strong favourite. However, both he and Trump will be aware that several favourites were knocked out during Saturday’s play.

A close game is expected between Cypriot Michael Georgiou and Jordan Brown, with the former 1.40 and the latter 2.75 to win. Liam Highfield is also in action and will face Jak Jones, before Mark Joyce meets Chen Feilong. The final game of the day sees Anthony Hamilton take on Scotland’s Rhys Clark.
