Selby bids to bounce back at Championship League
Share:

Mark Selby went down 6-2 to eventual winner Judd Trump in the quarter-finals of the Dafabet Masters last week and will look to respond in three Championship League matches on Monday.

The non-ranking event in Coventry is one of the few tournaments missing from the world number one’s CV.

Selby reached consecutive finals in 2008 and 2009 in the first two years the competition was held but has reached just one semi-final since, and he has been handed a tough route to the winners’ group this year.

Selby takes on Barry Hawkins in his first match on Monday in his first best-of-five frame contest before coming up against Ali Carter in the afternoon and Luca Brecel in the evening.

Selby is 1.67 to beat Hawkins and 5.00 to win 3-0, while Hawkins can be backed at 2.20.

Meanhwile, Carter has a busy schedule with four matches to come on Monday including his match-up with Selby.

The 39-year-old faces Stephen Maguire in the morning before his ties with Selby, Hawkins and Joe in a crucial day for Carter if he is to secure a spot in the winners’ group.

Carter is 2.40 to beat Selby, 2.20 to overcome Hawkins and 1.85 to see off Perry and Maguire.

The players are bidding to join Stuart Bingham, Trump, Neil Robertson and Jack Lisowski in the next stage of the tournament, with the winners’ group to be played on March 13 and 14.
