Defending Champion Mark Selby and World number one Judd Trump both continued their progress at the China Championship.

Three-time World Champion Selby rattled off-breaks of 58, 60, 79 and 122 on his way to victory against 32 seed Martin Gould.

The Jester from Leicester recovered astonishingly from losing the first frame to take a 4-1 lead. He also rounded off proceedings with a 122 after 38-year-old Gould had cut the arrears with an 83.

Trump, on the other hand, had rather less trouble that Selby, smashing Chinese professional Zhou Yuelong 5-0, with runs of 69, 121, 69 and 51. This victory means the World Champion is yet to drop a frame at the Championship in Guangzhou.

In other matches, Stephen Maguire lost 5-3 to Joe Perry. Perry, who is a seasoned English professional snooker player, often known as the “Fen Potter” and also nicknamed “the Gentleman”, came out victorious after a grueling match with Maguire. Joe Perry will now face a formidable foe, Judd Trump in the next round.

English-Norwegian professional snooker player, Kurt Maflin also lost 5-3 to Northern Irish professional snooker player Jordan Brown. Jordan Brown, who is currently ranked 81 in the world, pulled a shock win over the 36-year-old Maflin.

Luca Brecel continued his splendid run with a convincing 5-0 win over Mark Joyce. The 24-year-old Belgian professional snooker player made light work of Mark Joyce, who never looked like threatening him.

While Barry Hawkins humiliated Mitchell Mann 5-1. Finally, David Gilbert recorded a routine 5-2 win over Matthew Stevens.
