Luo eager to make last-four bow
Share:

Luo Honghao isn’t satisfied with reaching the quarter-finals of the Riga Masters and has stated a desire to secure his first ever ranking semi-finals spot.

The 19-year-old had only made it to the last-eight of a ranking event once previously, losing 5-2 to Ronnie O’Sullivan at the English Open in 2018.

In the meantime, he hasn’t gone beyond the second round at a ranking competition, until this week’s run in Latvia.

Luo has left David Grace, Mark Williams and Gary Wilson in his wake and is fully deserving of his place on the final day.

The world number 81 made easy work of Williams, ranked three in the world, to pick up a 4-1 victory and he backed that up with another stunning performance in round three against world number 20 Wilson to win 4-0.

Luo told World Snooker: “That was unbelievable. I thought it was going to be very difficult but I won a difficult first frame.

“Maybe he got angry after that and played very bad. I played ok, not very well, but not bad.

“It’s my second time in the quarter-finals. This time I want to get to the semi-finals because the draw is not very bad, not like last time against Ronnie O’Sullivan.”

The Virtuoso takes on world number 49 Kurt Maflin in Sunday’s quarter-final after the Norwegian beat Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 4-1.

Luo can be backed at 1.95 to pick up a fourth successive victory in Riga, while Maflin is priced at 1.80 to seal a spot in the semi-finals.
