Kyren Wilson makes maximum but crashes out
Share:

Kyren Wilson made the first maximum break of his professional career but that could not stop him exiting the International Championship at the hands of Martin Gould. The 25-year-old Wilson, who finished as runner-up at the recent English Open, achieved the feat during the 10th frame of the second-round match in China to level the contest up at 5-5. However, the world number 12 could not follow his maximum up with a victory in the deciding frame, as fellow Englishman Gould produced a break of 70 to book his place in the Last 16.

Wilson will take solace from the fact that he has earned a £5,000 bonus for his maximum, while he is also likely to receive a further £3,000 top-break prize unless someone can match his knock during the remainder of the tournament at Baihu Media Broadcasting Centre. Other notable winners on day three of the ranking event included world number one and defending champion Mark Selby, who was pushed all the way by Tom Ford before eventually prevailing 6-4.

Two other former champions, Judd Trump and John Higgins, have also made it safely through to the Last 16 following respective victories over Jimmy Robertson and Dominic Dale. World number Shaun Murphy is also through after disposing of Chinese youngster Zhang Yong 6-1, and his reward for reaching the Last 16 is a mouth-watering clash with two-time World Championship finalist Ali Carter, who beat Scotland’s Stephen Maguire comprehensively 6-1.
