Judd Trump through to China Championship Last 32
Share:

Judd Trump has reached the China Championship last 32 after a comfortable 5-0 victory over fellow English Man, Mike Dunn on Tuesday.

The World Champion took control of the encounter after winning a couple of early scrappy frames.

A 122 helped Trump to cushion his advantage before the World number one eased to winning line.

The 30-year-old, who won the last ranking event this season in China when he overcame Shaun Murphy in the final of the International Championship last month, will now be set for a showdown with 21-year old Chinese Professional Zhou Yuelong.

Zhou Yuelong beat Thepchaiya Un-nooh 5-1 while Murphy is maintaining his excellent form with a 5-3 victory against Yuan Sijun.

Meanwhile, the biggest upset of the day was fashioned by Zhao Xintong, who prevailed with a 5-3 scoreline against fellow countryman Ding Junhui.

In a cagey affair, Ding marginally scored heavier but couldn’t see off frames as his 22-year-old Chinese competitor crucially pinched three on the black.

While that encounter represents one of Zhao’s career-best victories, for Ding it’s another bad defeat at the hands of his fellow compatriot to add to the list as a prolonged period of poor form shows no signs of coming to a stop soon.

Kyren Wilson boasted arguably the performance of the day when he fired in a brace of tons and two additional breaks above 50 to Smash Robbie Williams 5-0.

By contrast, 2017 winner Luca Brecel was taken the distance before surviving a tough encounter with 32-year old Chinese professional Tian Pengfei in a decider.

Tian led 4-2 but the Belgian born professional fought back with breaks of 89 and 73 before pinching a dramatic final frame on the colours.

Brecel has struggled for consistent form since his first ever success two years ago and is provisionally set to plunge outside the World’s top 16 after the conclusion of this tournament unless he puts up a strong show in Guangzhou this week.

There were routine wins against home opposite for reigning Champion Mark Selby and Neil Robertson, while David Gilbert trashy Marco Fu a humiliating 5-1.

Mark Allen moved forward to the last 32 as well, firing in a tournament-high 145 total clearance in ousting Anthony Hamilton 5-3.

Former ranking event winners Stephen Maguire, Anthony McGill and Joe Perry survived yet another day in the third-ranking event, which boasts a top prize of 150,000 pounds.

There were compression 5-1 victories for Jack Lisowski, and Hossein Vafaei, both of them could make a bid for a first success at this level in the days ahead.

Luo Honghao was the other player to win on day two, edging Ricky Walden 5-4 to see up a clash against Mark Williams.
