Judd Trump makes flying start in Coventry
Share:

Judd Trump appears to be the man to beat in group five of the Championship League after he won all four of his matches on Tuesday.

The Englishman, who was beaten in the semi-finals of last week’s Masters by Kyren Wilson, has moved to the top of the group after he only dropped two frames. The 28-year-old began the day with a 3-1 victory over compatriot Martin Gould before further successes against David Gilbert and Joe Perry. His most impressive result was arguably a 3-0 whitewash of two-time world champion Mark Williams.

Trump is priced at 10/3 to go on and win but he will be looking to avoid a repeat of what happened in group four earlier this month as he also topped that group before going on to lose in the play-offs to Ali Carter. The world number three’s nearest challengers in the group appear to be Williams and Ben Woollaston, who both won two of their four matches on Tuesday while Gould currently occupies the final play-off position ahead of Joe Perry, Ricky Walden and Gilbert.

The final matches in the group will be concluded on Wednesday, with the top four players advancing through to the play-offs although only one of those men can ultimately secure a place the Winners’ Group that is due to take place at the end of March.
