Carter targeting World Games gold
Share:

Ali Carter is targeting winning the gold medal at the 2017 World Games after he eased his way into the quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Shaun Dalitz. The two-time World Championship runner-up is making his debut in the competition, but he made light work of his Australian opponent, easing through in impressive style with a break of 136 in the final frame.

The Englishman admits he feels honoured to be representing his country in the tournament and his main objective is to return home with a gold medal. “It’s a great honour to represent world snooker and my country,” Carter said. “To play the sport I have played for many years. I would love to come home with a gold medal.” The 38-year-old, who celebrated his birthday in the lead up to the tournament, admits conditions are slightly different to what he is used to in Wroclaw, but he is adapting quickly. “Conditions are a lot different to what we are used to,” he added. “Different table, different balls, different cloth, but we have to adapt.”

Next up for Carter is a quarter-final match against Northern Ireland’s Declan Brennan, who secured a 3-1 success against Belgium’s Wendy Jans, one of two female players competing in the tournament. Carter will be confident of progressing through to the semi-finals as he goes in search of his first title since he beat Joe Perry in the final of the World Open 12 months ago.
